An end of an era is near. For years, Carnation Plaza Gardens has been best known for being home to weekend swing dancing and has hosted some of swings biggest names including Count Basie and Benny Goodman. This Saturday, April 28, Carnation Plaza Gardens will host its last evening of swing dancing with the band Swingtown, as on April 30, the area will close so that it may undergo a major reimagining.
Carnation Plaza Gardens will be transformed into a new Fantasy Faire. Fantasyland will be expanding and the gardens will be an enchanting village square where guests will be able to enter the world of Disney’s fabulous royalty. Guest will be able to meet their favorite princesses and participate in a Royal Ribbon Parade in which they’ll be able to dance and interact with Belle and Rapunzel. The Carnation Plaza Gardens Stage will become the Fantasy Faire Stage where Disney fairy tales will come to life.
During the renovation of the area, which is scheduled to be complete in 2013, swing dancing will be held at the Westside Stage in the Downtown Disney District. Dancers need not fret because according to Suzi Brown, Disneyland Public Affairs spokesperson, “Swing dancing will return to the park when the Fantasy Faire opens next year. The area is being designed to host a variety of entertainment, from princess meet-and-greets during the day, to a wide range of musical offerings, including our popular swing bands, in the evening.”
Stay tuned for more information on the Fantasy Faire as it becomes available!

So the big question is, what will happen to what used to be called Fantasyland Theater? I do hope they start showing musicals there again soon.
