Monday Must Have: Maclaren Volo Stroller Review

October 12, 2010 in All Posts, babies & toddlers, favorite products, review by Lisa Robertson

For today’s Monday Must Have (and yes, I know it’s Tuesday but I had technical difficulties yesterday), I am happy to share with you the Volo stroller by Maclaren.  I have been testing out this stroller for several weeks.  I this is a high quality stroller meant to last years and years.

What makes this product great?
Everyone wants a lightweight stroller for trips to Disneyland, although in my opinion, the standard umbrella stroller is a bit too lightweight with its too-low-to-push handles, lack of storage, and flimsy frame.  The Volo by Maclaren is sturdy and everything that your every day umbrella stroller is not.  It has ergonomically designed handles, a convenient storage area, washable seating, and a 5-point harness that can easily be adjusted for children of different heights.
Why is the Volo by Maclaren great for trips to Disneyland?
  • This stroller weighs about 9 pounds and folds down very, very small.  Once empty, you can easily take it on the tram, Disneyland Railroad, or Monorail.  Plus, it has a carrying strap so that you can throw it over your shoulder when you are on the move.  How cool is that?
  • This stroller easily accommodates children of a variety of sizes.  It is recommended for children 6 months and up.  I have been able to easily and quickly adjust the 5 point harness to accommodate my 3- and 5-year-old children in less than a minute or two.
  • Umbrella strollers rarely offer any sort of storage.  This stroller offers a storage area under the seat.  It is plenty large enough to fit snacks and juices in a soft-sided cooler or your children’s sweatshirts.
  • It has a water resistant hood and raincover for those unexpected California rain showers.  Nothing can derail a trip to Disneyland faster than rain!
I recently put together a little video discussing what to look for in a lightweight weight stroller and the Volo is my gold standard example of what to look for.  If you are thinking about buying the Volo, check out my video.

    Were there any drawbacks?

Not really!  If you are looking for a small, umbrella style stroller, you will not be disappointed.  It is great for those times when you are out with a child who doesn’t need to recline to sleep and you don’t need to pack a lot of stuff.  It is the perfect stroller for toddlers and older children who just can’t walk all day at Disneyland and annual passholders who make frequent trips short trips.

I am excited that Maclaren has generously offered me a double stroller to use in the CHOC Walk this weekend! I cannot wait to tell you all about it!

This was not a paid post and honest opinions were used. The opinions are solely my own and may vary from others. Thank you to Maclaren who supplied me with the Volo stroller for this review.

I used a Maclaren umbrella on my last trip and my friend used her huge Graco.. I wanted a cup holder or usable basket, but loved how easy it was to transport!

I am with you on the cup holder. The Maclaren is definitely for short trips (perhaps easier at Dland than WDW) or trips with older children who don’t have as much “stuff.” When I do a long day trip, I use a larger stroller with more storage.

I just ordered one based on your review. It looks great! We have a Chicco, which we really like, but we’re not sure how well it will do at Disneyland. We’ll be going for the first time with our daughter this fall, and can’t wait to try it out! Thanks. 🙂
