Now, I know that it’s not even October yet, but I am very excited to tell you that in a mere 40 days it will be the Holiday Season at the Disneyland Resort! Although there are a handful of dates and specifics that have yet to be announced, if you’re like me, then you may already be ready to plan for your Holiday Time visit!
I do not exaggerate when I say that if you love Christmas then your heart will be bursting with Christmas joy as you experience all the wondrous, nostalgic, and very merry festivities that the Disneyland Resort has to offer during the holiday season. There are more amazing lights and incredible decorations than you can imagine, the perfect musical backdrop, and seasonal tastes and smells to fill you to the brim with Christmas spirit. It truly is the most magical, wonderful, time of the year at Disneyland, this year running from November 8, 2019 through January 6, 2020.
At Disneyland Park, holiday festivities will include…
- The Christmas Fantasy Parade – A classic, fun parade for all (just typing that has me humming the tune)
- “Believe… In Holiday Magic” Fireworks Spectacular – There will be snow and fireworks. What more do you need to know?
- “it’s a small world holiday” – This attraction gets a jolly makeover inside and out complete with familiar holiday tunes and scenes inside and a special musical light projection show every 30 minutes after dark on the facade.
- Haunted Mansion Holiday – Yep, this one is going now for Halloweentime, but it will continue through the holidays as well!
- Wintertime Enchantment at Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle – Every evening you can witness the wintery transformation of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle complete with icicles, twinkle lights, music, and snow!
- Santa Meet-n-Greet – Although it this not listed on the Disneyland website, Santa is typically set up back in Critter Country for children (or adults) to visit.
- Disneyland Candlelight Processional – Another annual event that’s not yet been announced formally for 2019 – traditionally the Candlelight Processional is 4 shows over the first weekend in December with a live choir and celebrity guest speaker telling the Christmas story. It is a ticketed event if you want seats, but those passing by down Main Street can also stand in designated areas to watch. (This was honestly one of the most heart-warming productions I have ever seen!)
Over at Disney California Adventure, you can’t miss out on the Disney Festival of Holidays…
-
Disney ¡Viva Navidad! Street Party – A multicultural celebration including Donald and the rest of the Three Caballeros in a lively performance.
- Three Kings Day – Festivities will last only from January 3-6, 2020.
- Festive Foods Marketplace – Feast on entrees, desserts, and drinks from 12 uniquely themed festive food kiosks.
- Santa’s Holiday Visit – You can visit Santa at Redwood Creek Challenge Trail and let the kiddos get some extra energy out as they enjoy the outdoor activities and seasonal games.
- Buena Vista Street Holiday Tree Lighting – Experience the nostalgic excitement of an old-fashioned tree lighting.
- CarsLand at “Car-istmas” – The whole town of Radiator Springs gets it on the “hauliday” excitement with decorations, music, and the festively re-themed Mater’s Jingle Jamboree and Luigi’s Joy to the Whirl attractions.
- World of Color-“Season of Light” – Has yet to be announced online, but with World of Color finally refurbed and working again, we should be able to expect this special holiday-themed show.
Of course you can’t leave out Downtown Disney and the Resort Hotels!
You will find wondrous Christmas trees in all locations and every last nook and cranny brimming with holiday magic in the decorations and details.
The Grand Californian Hotel is always a favorite with it’s glorious, huge tree in the middle of the already jaw-dropping lobby and nearby the giant fire roaring in the fireplace surrounded by the cushiest rocking chairs. And on top of that there is live piano music, and carolers, and usually a can’t-miss giant gingerbread house with a pop-up hot drink and gingerbread stand. I don’t think it gets much better.
And last, but certainly not least – the treats…
- Candy Canes – Freshly made in the Candy Palace in Disneyland, and Trolley Treats in DCA… these go FAST – if you want one, plan in advance to see what parks and which days and times they will be making them and get in line early.
- Gingerbread Mickeys – I know they have these year round now, but they are the best gingerbread you will ever eat, and I swear they are better during the holidays.
- Yule log Cake – It’s just a classic Christmas dessert, and you can find it at the Plaza Inn all through the holidays!
- Peppermint beignets – Need I say more?
- And there will be so, so many other delicious delicacies to sample!

I am curious when the Halloween decorations go down and the Christmas ones go up? We will arrive November 1st for a one day trip. Our son is marching in the parade. Wondering if it will be Halloween or Christmas.
Jessica McConnel says
Halloween decorations start coming down November 1st and Christmas decorations begin to go up almost simultaneously in order for the Holiday Season to officially begin at Disneyland on the 8th. I’m sure you will still see plenty of Halloween decor!
