Everything You Need to Know About Anna and Elsa’s Boutique

February 25, 2016 in All Posts by Vy

Anna and Elsa's boutique

Many of you have probably read our in-depth look at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique inside the Disneyland Resort.  It is a wonderful experience for your Princess-loving daughters who get to undergo a makeover from “Fairy Godmothers-in-training” and, depending on the level you purchase, will also grant you a meet-and-greet experience with the Disney Princesses. Recently, with the success of the Frozen franchise, Disneyland announced a new Frozen option at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique package. However, what if you’re looking for a magical makeover experience without having to purchase admission into the Parks?

Enter Anna and Elsa’s Boutique!

The ShopInside Anna and Elsa's Boutique

Located in the Downtown Disney District, a visit to Anna and Elsa’s boutique doesn’t require Park admission.  The shop is located next to Marceline’s Confectionary and the entrance to the Grand Californian Hotel (near Sephora).

While the shop itself is stuffed full of all the Frozen merchandise you could ever want, most families bring their little ones to take part in magical makeovers that will appease your child but also not make too big of a dent on your wallet.  There are two areas where these makeovers take place – the first being a table displaying a round of mirrors.  The other area is in the back of the room, where there are four chairs underneath some fun chandeliers.

My niece and her two friends (and their respective mothers), made a reservation for the Elsa fans to get their very own makeover at Anna and Elsa’s boutique.  Upon check-in for their reservation, each girl was asked what color “hair streak” they wanted for their hair.  There are many options for how they will style your hair, from Elsa’s “coronation hair” to Olaf (there is a girl version also available that features a cute miniature top hat).

Age Considerations

To participate in the Anna and Elsa Boutique experience, Guests must be between the ages of 3 and 15, and must be accompanied by an adult at all times throughout the experience.  Also note, all costumes available are in youth sizing only, so mommies and adults, unfortunately this makeover doesn’t apply to you.

Pricing

With the exception of the Olaf makeover for boys, priced at $18.95, the other makeovers were a reasonable price of $34.95.  This is a fairly reasonable price for just the makeup portion for Frozen fans.  Annual Passholder Discounts also apply!

As I mentioned, Disney announced a new new Frozen package for the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, which is currently priced at a whopping $194.95 (plus tax).  This includes an Anna or Elsa hairstyle with braided hairpiece, sparkling snowflake hair accessories, an Anna or Elsa costume, shimmering makeup, face gem, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique princess sash and cinch sack, nail polish, and 12-inch Olaf plush – so you can see how the BBB experience differs from the Anna and Elsa Boutique experience.

The Transformation into Elsa

My niece and both her friends chose the Elsa makeover (naturally) as they all were wearing their favorite Elsa dresses.  While the advertisement says that the Elsa hair comes with one blue hair streak, each of the girls was allowed to select whatever color hair streak they wanted.

The three girls were seated side-by-side in the back, each assigned their very own magical makeup artist, who quickly started working on the girls’ hair.  If you compare this to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique experience, the magical makeup artists are wearing t-shirts and jeans, not quite the Fairy Godmothers-in-Training like their counterparts inside Fantasyland.  Given this is Downtown Disney and not inside Disneyland, I didn’t mind that at all.

When asked, the Cast Members said that the whole experience from start to finish would take about 30-40 minutes.  All three of the girls wore their own Elsa dresses, although the shop does offer dresses for purchase if you want to complete your child’s look.

The Accessories

The Boutique stylists each took great care to create the cascading braid and coronation bun that Elsa is known for at the beginning of the film Frozen.  After adding the colored hair strand into each child’s hair, the stylists then begin to paint each child’s nails and then ask them to choose their favorite colors from a makeup palette to complete their look.  After attaching a tiara to their finished hair, a sprinkle of magic sparkles completed the look.  My niece naturally chose the rainbow glitter.

They turned the girls around for their big reveal (and in an effort to maintain their privacy I did not include any of the girls’ images here) but I can definitely guarantee that all three girls left Anna and Elsa’s Boutique grinning from ear to ear!  They were also sent home with a cute plastic bag filled with a few of the goodies they got to sample in the makeup chair.

Update:  Babes in Disneyland reader Adriana Simas shared these photos of her own princess post-makeover!   Her daughter selected the “Cool as Ice” package.

This is a great alternative option for your little ones who want to have a little Princess or Queen makeover but you don’t want to break the bank doing it.  Reservations are highly recommended and can be made up to 60 days in advance to arrival by calling (714) 781-STYLE or (714) 781-7895).

Have you taken your loved ones to Anna and Elsa’s Boutique? Sound off!
