Two days ago my boys were pretty amped when I told them that one of their “field trips” for their summer day camp this week was to walk to our local Menchie’s. My husband and I laughed but the kids were thrilled with the idea of going to get frozen yogurt and all of the toppings they want without my husband and me there.
My first out-of-Disney Dole Whip |
When I picked the boys from camp that day, they ran up to me and exclaimed, “Mom! They have Dole Whip at Menchie’s.” I couldn’t even process what they were saying. I replied, “You mean they had pineapple frozen yogurt.” They corrected me and went on to explain it was Dole Whip and I continued questioning them, as if they had discovered a lost civilization buried in our backyard. Finally one of the councelors turned to me as said, “It really is Dole Whip.”
It was 4:20 and I had 10 minutes to go a mile to pick up my youngestson from daycare about a mile away. In L.A., it takes about 10 minutes to go a mile, so I had a choice to make: be late to pick up Connor from daycare OR head over to Menchie’s a couple of block in the opposite direction and vet this whole “Dole Whips outside of Disneyland” rumor. I did what any good Disney fan/bad parent would do: I headed over to Menchie’s. I ran in with a couple of dollars in hand, dispensed the liquid gold, took some pictures (because my blog is always at the top of my priority list) and then began to indulge as I drove to pick up Connor. It was the real deal. It really is Dole Whip.
I had to look into it further and found the website for the company that sells Dole Whip and checked Menchie’s site and YES, the Whip in both places is the same. I then texted my husband the good news, and here’s how that went:
At least we share our passion for Dole Whips, right? |
If you love Dole Whips as much as I do, or if you are just looking to recapture some of the magic (and flavor) of your last Disneyland or Walt Disney World vacation, stop what you are doing right now and call your local Menchie’s (there are stores in about 33 states and Washington D.C., and throughout Canada) and ask if they carry the Dole pineapple flavor immediately! If they don’t, ask them to get it!

While it isn’t called “Dole Whip”, the fro-yo chain PeachWave has a Dole Pineapple “yogurt” that is non-dairy and tastes just like a Dole Whip. It is pretty much Dole Whip. Great treat!

Ok, I have to admit I’ve never had a Dole Whip. I’ve read such great things but haven’t gotten around to it. We’ll be doing WDW and Disney Cruise next summer, so I will make this a priority to seek out this Dole Whip of which you speak.
Also, I can’t wait to see your “WDW for Disneylanders” section come to fruition. Looking for some good information prior to our trip next year!

We experienced a similar situation. We live in Rocklin, California. On a whim we tried a new frozen yogurt place called OMG. When we walked in there was a signed picture of Minnie which was my first clue. Then we saw it! Dole whips!! I asked the clerk and she assured us it was indeed genuine Dole Whip. Our taste buds confirmed but just in case I did some research online and discovered it is indeed possible to have Dole Whip outside of the parks. My husband is also concerned about his weight as he is a Dole Whip addict.
