“Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two” Coming Soon!

When it comes to technology, especially gaming technology, I stay aware and informed, but I’m not what you might call an “early adopter”. But there are some cases where I make an exception, and Epic Mickey was one of those. Not only did I buy Epic Mickey within a few weeks of its debut, my wife and I actually bought a Wii primarily so we’d have something on which to play Epic Mickey.

While I must admit that we haven’t “beaten” the game yet, we have a lot of fun playing it. It’s easy to start and not realize a couple of hours have gone by as we explore Wasteland (the world in which the game is set), solve puzzles, and overcome obstacles.

Now, Disney Interactive has announced “the highly-anticipated ‘Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two’ video game will be available for Nintendo’s Wii U™ system this holiday season.  Wii U players will experience their adventure through Wasteland, an alternate world filled with more than 80 years of forgotten Disney characters and theme park attractions, in HD graphics and enjoy enhanced game features.”

While we won’t buy a Wii U™ system to play the new game (though I wish we could), Epic Mickey 2 will also be available on Xbox 360®, the PLAYSTATION®3, and the Wii™.

strange–but fun–places.

What am I most looking forward to in the new game? Here are my Top 5:

  1. 2-player mode! The original game is one player only. That can be fun, but there were many times that my wife and I wanted to play together. With Epic Mickey 2, we’ll be able to do just that.
  2. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit! While Oswald was featured in the original game, in this one he will actually be a playable character.
  3. Music! One of my favorite aspects of Epic Mickey is the music. The area music in the Ticket Booth area early in the game is familiar, and haunting. Epic Mickey 2 will take the musical aspects to a whole new level. According to Disney Interactive, “‘Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two’ is the first video game that can be described as a ‘musical,’ where at various points during the adventure characters will express themselves and advance the plot by bursting into song. All songs feature original Disney-inspired music and lyrics.  Players will also hear tunes and instrumentation that change based on their personal choices, which will ultimately allow each individual to ‘conduct’ their own unique soundtrack. As a Disney music lover, I can’t wait!
  4. Blasts from the Past! This alternate world is filled with 80 years of forgotten Disney characters and theme park attractions.
  5. What you do matters! On of my favorite things about the original Epic Mickey game is that how you play matters. Your choice of when to use paint, when to use thinner, who to cooperate with, etc., all have an effect later in the game. This is going to be even more true in the sequel.

All in all, I fully expect Disney to have another hit with “Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two,” and personally, I can’t wait to experience it for myself.
