Of all of the things premiering next month at Disney California Adventure park, I am really looking forward to seeing Buena Vista Street. Buena Vista Street is actually named after the REAL street that runs along side the actual Disney Studios in beautiful Burbank, California. I drive on this street almost every day. In fact, the hospital room I stayed in at St. Joseph’s Hospital after the birth of my second son overlooked Buena Vista Street and the Disney Studio. I can’t wait to see the reimagining of a street I travel on so frequently.
At Disney California Adventure park, Buena Vista Street has been designed to recreate the Los Angeles that Walt Disney first experienced when he arrived in California in 1920s and as he built his studios in the 1930s. The street pays homage to the beautiful architecture of Los Angeles’ past. All of the tile on Buena Vista Street was custom crafted in Los Angeles and made from historical patterns with custom colors specifically created for Disney California Adventure.
Here’s a little of what you’ll have to look forward to on Buena Vista Street:
- Los Feliz 5 & Dime which will feature train-themed
Red Trolley merchandise courtesy of Disneyland Resort merchandise.
- Mortimer’s Market is based on a shop that was on 6th Avenue in Los Angeles. Walt was originally going to name Mickey Mouse “Mortimer Mouse,” but Lilian didn’t think much of the name and persuaded him otherwise. Mortimer’s Market will feature fresh fruits and vegetables, snacks, juice and soda.
- Buena Vista Street’s flagship store will be Elias and Co. (taken from Walt’s middle name). The store is an impressive homage to art deco opulence. Guests will be able to check out a line of products featuring the popular line of vintage-inspired attraction posters and a unique line of sepia tone items inspired by the Storytellers Statue of Walt and Mickey. The store will be reminiscent of department stores of the past with four distinct “departments” or areas for shopping for goods.
- Clarabelle’s will serve hand-scooped ice cream and sundaes in Red Car Trolley cups.
- Big Top Toys will be a circus themed shop featuring toys, games and exclusive Red Car Trolley play sets. Fingers crossed that they will have those Mr. Potato Head pieces we’re all hoping for!
- Oswald’s will be a gas station-themed shop and with all of your favorite Disney souvenirs
- In the Trolly Treats candy shop, candy makers will make candy apples, hand-pulled taffy and even gourmet marshmallows. Guests should be on the look out for the Rock Candy Mountain–a recreation of an attraction Walt has planned for Fantasyland.

Imagineers and planners have gone to great lengths to create a sense of magic and intimacy for guests on Buena Vista Street. The street has been planted with a lot of trees to give the area a sense of age and warmth. The “citizens of Buena Vista Street” will interact with guests one-on-one, as will Chip and Dale, Goofy and Mickey Mouse.
Adding to the fun and entertainment will be two outstanding musical acts:

- Five & Dime is made up of a group of five jazz musicians who pawned everything, packed up their jalopy and drove to Buena Vista Street. They met up with a singer named Dime now they live, drive and entertain from their car on Buena Vista Street!
- The Red Car News Boys will roll into town on the Red Car Trolley bringing the latest headlines and belting out songs from the ’20s and ’30s.
