Since being introduced to “Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park” nearly five years ago- I’ve had the opportunity to enjoy this character dining option on numerous occasions. Located at the end of Main Street, just before the entrance to Tomorrowland, the Plaza Inn is the only restaurant inside the gates of Disneyland that offers character dining (although guests can often meet characters back at Big Thunder BBQ). If you’re looking to start your morning off with a tasty meal, while spending time with some of your favorite Disney characters, “Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park” at the Plaza Inn is an excellent way to add an extra touch of magic to your next Disneyland trip.
The decor of the Plaza Inn instantly transports guests to the Victorian era and enhances the nostalgic experience that Disneyland creates so well. The crystal chandeliers and sconces, wrought iron furniture, and stained glass food stations make for a unique backdrop for photos. One of my favorite times to visit is during the holiday season when the restaurant is especially picturesque, complete with Christmas trees, garland, and Minnie Mouse in a festive costume.
“Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park” is an excellent opportunity to meet several, and often rarely seen characters in one location. As with the other character dining experiences the characters stop at each table for autographs, photos, and special interactions with guests. Engaging the characters by being lively and excited to see them, asking questions, and generally being silly can make for some great photo and video opportunities. Some children “clam up” when they come face-to-face with their favorite Disney stars, so it’s not a bad idea to coach them ahead of time. Over the years we’ve enjoyed many a dance party with Chip and Dale, had bouncing contests with Tigger, and shared waffles with Captain Hook. Some of the characters you might expect to meet are: Captain Hook, Rafiki (Lion King), Chip, Dale, Eeyore, Tigger, Winnie the Pooh, Perla (the mouse from Cinderella), Max (Goofy’s son), the Fairy Godmother and of course, Minnie Mouse.
Breakfast is served buffet style at a cost of $23.99 for adults and $11.99 for children ages 3 to 9. Children under the age of 3 eat for free. The meal selection includes warm and cold cereals, eggs, hash browns, breakfast meats (ham, bacon, sausage) and a large selection of pastries. Most notable are the Mickey Shaped Waffles with warm fruit toppings, biscuits and gravy, made-to-order omelette station and a great selection of fresh fruit.
If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to visit the Plaza Inn, or if it’s been a while since your last visit, I highly recommend that you consider making a reservation for your next trip. “Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park” is a winning combination of delicious food and amazing character interactions that make for a truly magical morning.
