13 Merrily Spooky Facts About Haunted Mansion Holiday

November 7, 2014 in All Posts, attractions, christmas, disneyland, disneyland resort, fun facts, halloween, holidays by Lisa Robertson

Haunted Mansion Holiday is an annual guest favorite at the Disneyland Resort. It ushers in Halloween Time and remains through the holiday season into early January. If you are a Nightmare Before Christmas fan, this attraction is not to be missed. If you are a fan of the attraction, I think you are going to love all of these fun facts about this year’s Haunted Mansion Holiday attraction.

1. More than 400 flickering candles and 100 jack-o-lanterns decorate the façade of the Haunted Mansion.

2. Jack Skellington and his ghost dog Zero appear in a fully animated sequence on the ceiling of the “stretching” room that transports guests into the depths of the mansion.

3. Ghost dog Zero makes a surprise appearance among the spooky, transforming portraits in the portrait gallery corridor.

4. The graveyard inside Haunted Mansion Holiday is covered with nearly 7,500 square feet of snow, 20 gallons of UV (ultra-violet) paint, and almost 1,000 tiny, orange lights.

5. The iconic Graveyard Ice Angels are designed with a jagged, ice-carved look so that they look like actual ice.

6. Each season, thousands of feet of “Black Gnarly” garland is draped and hung inside and outside Haunted Mansion Holiday.

7. More than two dozen additional animated figures are added to the attraction for Haunted Mansion Holiday including man-eating wreaths and vampire teddy bears.

8. Creepy cobwebs are “artistically” kept (not swept!) year-round to make Jack Skellington and the 999 Happy Haunts feel right at home.

9. Madame Leota’s “13 Days of Christmas” are featured in 13 spinning fortune cards that tell of the Christmas gifts which, as she proclaims, “My ghoul love gave to me…” For this seasonal attraction, Imagineer Kim Irvine (daughter of the original Madame Leota who was also an Imagineer)performs as the Haunted Mansion’s psychic, floating inside the Haunted Mansion’s Crystal Ball in the Séance Room.

10. The scent of gingerbread wafts throughout the Grand Hall.

11. New for 2014, a more “animated” Sally bids farewell to “Sandy Claws” as guests exit the attraction.

12. A team of five pastry chefs created this year’s zombie Gingerbread Mansion. Three of them have been part of the Haunted Mansion Gingerbread House team since the annual holiday transformation began.

13. This year marks the 14th year of Haunted Mansion Holiday.
